Turkey Day

So, I am sure there are thousands of people posting on here from the States that they are thankful family, friends, a job, a good place to live, healthy kids, personal health and so on.  I am not going to post about being thankful for all that. I am thankful for all that and thank god every day that I have all of the above and so much more.  I am extremely lucky in this world right now. But I am not going to make the post about being thankful for all of the above.

No, I am thankful for the four decades plus of books from Anne McCaffrey.  For those of you who do not know she passed away earlier in the week.  She was 85 so its not that shocking just a little sad.  I am thankful though for the time, effort and energy she put into her books that changed the way that the Sci-Fi and Fantasy world looked at female characters and female authors.  If it had not been for her novel in 1967 (Restoree) than I would not have some of my loves in Jacqueline Carey, Anne Bishop, Pip Ballentine and so many others. There might have been no Harry Potter and gods of everything forbid no Twilight.

With all that being said I am thankful for the woman who only got a tiny announcement on a blog and an a tagline on the news.  There were no major stories about her nothing. This is my call out there for all Pern fans to please, please, please take a moment to remember the woman that gave use countless adventures on dragons, in space, and in other places in her imagination.

I am thankful for Anne McCaffrey
